2026 KTM 890 SMT Launched in Europe with Sharper Styling and Road-Focused Updates

2026 KTM 890 SMT: KTM has officially unveiled the 2026 KTM 890 SMT for the European market, refining its Super Moto Tourer formula with subtle but meaningful updates. First introduced in 2023, the 890 SMT was positioned as a sporty, road-biased touring motorcycle, and the 2026 model builds on that foundation with sharper aesthetics and a more aggressive on-road stance.

The biggest visual change comes in the form of a new orange–blue–black livery, which gives the bike a racier and more premium appearance. Complementing this is a low front fender, replacing the earlier tall beak-style unit. This change makes the 890 SMT look more compact and asphalt-focused, underlining its sporty touring intent.

Chassis and Suspension: Built for Stability and Speed

The 2026 KTM 890 SMT continues to use a chromium-molybdenum steel frame, where the engine acts as a stressed member. The frame is powder-coated and paired with an aluminium rear subframe, also powder-coated, ensuring high rigidity while keeping mass centralised. This setup delivers a balance of stability for touring and quick responses for spirited riding on twisty roads.

Suspension duties are handled by WP APEX components at both ends:

  • Front: WP APEX 43 mm fork
  • Rear: WP APEX monoshock
  • Travel: 180 mm front and 180 mm rear

The front suspension offers compression and rebound adjustment, while the rear gets preload and rebound adjustability. This setup keeps the bike sporty on smooth tarmac while still capable of handling rough and imperfect road surfaces.

Proven LC8c Engine with Strong Performance

Powering the 890 SMT is KTM’s well-known LC8c 889 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It produces:

  • Power: 104 bhp
  • Torque: 100 Nm

The engine is managed by a Bosch EMS with ride-by-wire throttle, delivering crisp and precise throttle response. Performance levels are more than sufficient for aggressive road riding and fast touring, making the bike equally comfortable on highways and mountain roads.

  • Optional Track mode

Additional features include full LED lighting, a five-inch TFT display, and optional extras such as Quickshifter+ and cruise control, enhancing both sporty riding and long-distance comfort.

KTM 890 SMT Specifications at a Glance

  • Fuel tank capacity: 15.8 litres
  • Seat height: 860 mm
  • Ground clearance: 227 mm

These figures make the 890 SMT well-suited to real-world touring while retaining its supermoto-inspired agility.

India Launch Possibility?

While the 2026 KTM 890 SMT is currently limited to the European market, its road-friendly nature and versatile setup could make it a strong contender for Indian roads. If there is enough demand and interest, KTM India might consider bringing limited units to the country in the future.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 KTM 890 SMT doesn’t try to reinvent itself—instead, it sharpens what already worked. With refreshed styling, a more focused road presence, proven mechanicals, and advanced electronics, it continues to stand out as a sporty yet practical touring motorcycle. For riders who want performance, comfort, and everyday usability in one package, the updated 890 SMT remains a compelling option in KTM’s global lineup.
